New Year?

It seems late to say, “Happy New Year”.  We are, unbelievably halfway through the second month of the year already! Did you make New Year’s resolutions?  If you did, how are they going?  February is a good time to review to see if the resolutions are going well, or if they need some modification.

We have a lot of news to share here at Planning for the Next Season as this new year has started!

Melissa Young travelled to the US in the month of January to visit family and friends, but also to meet with older people in the US who are developing virtual villages of support in their local communities.  It was wonderful to meet with the people who are catalysts of these villages and share their passion in developing innovative, community based ways for people to stay at home and age in place.

Desiree deGraaf, our Life Planning Advisor, will be taking an extended break to be with her family.  She and her husband and daughter will be welcoming a new baby sometime in March.  Margaret Ranson will be working with Planning for the Next Season from 26 February onwards.  Margaret comes with many years experience working with older people and their families.  She has particular knowledge about residential aged care as well as building homes that will suit as we age.  We wish Desiree all the best and welcome Margaret into the Planning for the Next Season family.

Planning for the Next Season has been busy facilitating or co-facilitating workshops around Advance Care Planning (in conjunction with Panorama Health Network).  There are two community workshops remaining which are open to anyone in the northern suburbs of Perth.  These workshops will be held in March and June.  Dates and venues will be on our website soon.

A special workshop to answer your questions around financial issues, wills, estates and courageous conversations will be held on 23 February at Admiral Park Community Sporting Facility in Heathridge.  This is a free workshop which includes presentations from Andrew Hopkins and WA Aged Care Financial Solutions, Catherine Hopkin from Willcraft and Melissa Young from Planning for the Next Season.  If  you have questions about financial issues, wills or planning, this is a workshop not to be missed.  Confirm your spot by ringing Catherine Hopkin on 0421 475 801 or emailing

Have a wonderful late summer!  We hope to see you soon!
